TACOMA, Wash. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers continue their win streak in the Northwest Conference taking down the Pacific Lutheran Lutes with an 8-1 win. The Pioneers swept in doubles, but had a loss to the No. 1 for the Lutes. This made the Pioneers 2-1 in conference play for the NWC.
Rachael Rice and Carla Thomas played in the No. 1 position for the Pioneers to finish with an 8-0 win over the Lutes' No. 1, Hannah Jeffries and Bayley Gochanour. Macarena Vives took the No. 6 spot, and had a season debut with a win over the Lutes, 6-2, 6-4.
In singles, the Pioneers had a strong performance with five out of their six players finishing in wins. Riley Hanks had a 6-2, 6-3, win over the Lutes' No. 2. Madelyn Landerfelt went to three against the Lutes' No. 1. Landerfelt lost the first game to come back in the second game, but could not seem to finish. Landerfelt lost in the third with a final score of, 4-6.
In doubles, two of the matches were close, and the Pioneers finished out with big wins after a tight set of matches. Hanks and Natalie Kowal had a 8-4 win over the Lutes' No. 2. Landerfelt and Caitlin Jones went against the Lutes' No. 3 to get an 8-6 win.
- Jones has a singles record of 3-0
- Kowal has a singles record of 4-2 while Hanks has a record of 3-3
- Thomas and Rice are 4-0 in doubles
- Overall, the Pioneers have a record of 17-19 in singles and 9-9 in doubles
The Pioneers stay on the hill to continue conference play against Whitworth on Mar. 16.
