NEWBERG, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers took down the George Fox Bruins with a 7-2 win. The Pioneers are now 4-5 overall with a 3-2 conference record. As of the latest rankings, the Pioneers are ranked No. 14 in the West region for Division III.
Madelyn Landerfelt had a great performance against the Bruins' No. 1 with a victory in three sets. Riley Ranks almost had a clean sweep in singles against the Bruins' No. 2. The Pioneers went 5-1 in singles and they went 2-1 in doubles for the day.
In singles, Madelyn Landerfelt held down the No. 1 position for the Pioneers with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 win over the Bruins. Rachael Rice continues to dominate in singles with a big win over the Bruins' No. 3 with a final score of 6-2, 7-5. The Pioneers continued to dominate in five out of their six games of singles, and had an overall strong performance.
In doubles, Landerfelt and Hanks continued to dominate on the court with a big 8-5 win over the Bruins No. 1 team. Rice and Carla Thomas took down the Bruins No. 2 team with a 8-4 win. Lastly, Natalie Kowal and Caroline Hennes went to a tie-breaker, and unfortunately had a 8=7 (7-5) loss the Bruins. This was one of three close games for the day. The Pioneers went into singles with a 2-1 lead.
