The Pioneers defeat the Willamette Bearcats

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Pioneers take down the Willamette Bearcats with a big conference win as one of their last matches on the hill for this season. Thomas finishes one her last matches as a Pioneer with a victorious day going 2-0 in doubles and singles. The Pioneers won in with an overall 7-2 score. 

Madelyn Landerfelt and Riley Hanks had an incredible performance in doubles together, and they were carrying the momentum throughout the entire match. The Pioneers stayed strong throughout the entire match to take the win, and boosted their NWC record to 4-3.

Key Moments

In doubles, the Pioneers had some incredible matches with two teams dominating the Bearcats. Madelyn Landerfelt and Riley Hanks had a great performance, and won in a tie-breaker with the score of 8-7, (7-4). Rachael Rice and Carla Thomas also had a close match, but finished in a win after a tie-breaker with the final score of 8-7, (11-9). Caroline Hennes and Caitlin Jones dropped their match in doubles with a score of 4-8. The Pioneers ended doubles with a 2-1 lead. 

In singles, they continued to gain momentum to finish off the Bearcats. Hanks had a great day at the court with another win in singles with a score of 6-4, 6-4 against Willamette's No. 2. Rice also dominated with a 6-1, 6-2 win against the Bearcats' No. 3. Thomas also had a 6-1, 6-2 win against the Bearcats. Natalie Kowal and Vives also had wins today  The Pioneers went 5-1 in singles to grab the win from the Bearcats.
