Pioneers end with a sweep

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Pioneers were victorious when celebrating their senior Carla Thomas. She was able to play her last game as a Pioneer on the hill, and end with a sweep against the Pacific (Ore.) Boxers. The Pioneers all had great performances to contribute to the senior's last home sweep with a final score of 9-0. 

Thomas has played for the Pioneers for four years, and has been essential to the program. As a senior, Thomas went 5-6 overall with a NWC record of 4-2. Thomas competed a majority of her last season with Rachael Rice as her doubles' partner, and they dominated the season with an overall record of 7-3, NWC 5-1.Thomas had a successful last season as a Pioneer.

Key Moments

In doubles, the Pioneers had a great start to the their final match of the season until post-season play. Landerfelt and Hanks had a great battle with the Boxers' No. 1 team, and finished with an 8-4 win. Rice and Thomas also had an incredible performance to add to Thomas' amazing career as a Pio. Thomas and Rice also had a sweep, and finished with an 8-1 win. Caitlin Jones and Caroline Hennes had an 8-3 win to add to the Pioneers 3-0 sweep in doubles. 

In singles, Hanks was a phenomenal performance as competing as the Pioneers' No. 1. She swept the first set, but then came back in the second after a 0-3 deficit to come back to finish with a 7-5 win. Thomas finished her last singles game on a great note with a huge 6-2, 6-3 win over the Boxers'.
