SEGUIN, Texas -- Julia Somers posted 11 kills and Bailee Cragun added eight as the Lewis & Clark Pioneers lost to Schreiner in their opening match of the Texas Lutheran Bulldog Classic on Friday at Memorial Gymnasium.
The Pios (0-4) raced to a 1-0 lead in the match after hitting .318 as a team in the opening set against the Mountaineers before averaging .085 in the final three sets to lose by a final of 15-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-21.
Casey Myszkowski hit above .250 for the third time in four matches, totaling .385 with five kills. She added five digs and two blocks. Somers added four digs, three assists and an ace, while Cragun hit .115 with three digs and a block. Emma Contreras and Kortney Meyer had five kills as well. Sam Yorke and Mikayla Lopez each totaled 14 assists.
Alli Mills and Kelsey Hamrick finished with nine kills apiece to lead Schreiner (2-3).
Hardin-Simmons 3, Lewis & Clark 0
The Pioneers ended the first day of the tournament with a rematch against Hardin-Simmons. Last week, at the Colorado College Classic, the Pios lost in four sets to the Cowgirls.
On Friday, it was a similar result where the closest sets went Hardin-Simmon's way, as the Cowgirls won the 26-24, 25-17, 25-22.
Somers led the match with a .273 hitting percentage and 14 kills, matching her season high. No one else for the Pios had more than four. Annika San Nicolas had a team-best two service aces.
Lewis & Clark has two matches on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
