McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers and Linfield Wildcats went to extra points in the first two sets in Saturday's Northwest Conference match at Ted Wilson Gymnasium. After the Pioneers prevailed in the opener, Lewis & Clark dropped the next three in a 24-26, 32-30, 25-14, 25-11 defeat.
Kortney Meyer landed a kill to take the Pioneers, her third of the set, to move the Pioneers up by one, 25-24, before an attack error by Linfield's Regan Dean gave Lewis & Clark a 1-0 lead. Meyer finished with 10 kills and 13 digs in the match.
In the second set, the Pios built a 7-3 lead before falling behind by five, 15-10, and eventually making the match even at 25 apiece. Lewis & Clark fought off five set points by the Wildcats before kills by Audrey Hyem and Dean gave Linfield the set. Casey Myszkowski and Makena Ohlmaier led the Pios in the set and both finished the match with eight kills.
Linfield (8-1; 2-0 NWC) closed out the match in the third and fourth sets. Dean finished with a match-high 16 kills to go with 13 digs for the Wildcats.
Emma Contreras had the highest Lewis & Clark kills total with 12, but hit -.023 for the match. Linfield held an edge in hitting percentage, .126 to .048.
After seven-straight matches away from the Pamplin Sports Center, Lewis & Clark will return for its Northwest Conference home opener against Puget Sound on Friday. The match will be the first of five in a row at home.
