Lewis & Clark loses in four-set battle

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers loss to the Linfield Wildcats with scores of 25-18, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20. The loss brings their record to 1-9 in the Northwest Conference.

In the first set, the Pioneers were neck-and-neck with the Wildcats staying tied till 10-10. Lewis & Clark then made their first strong run with three straight kills from Casey Myszkowski, Sam Yorke, and Kortney Meyer which led to a Linfield timeout. After the timeout, Linfield made consecutive runs to take the first set.

Lewis & Clark won the second set capitalizing off of 11 Linfield attack errors. Meyer helped the Pios win the second set with four kills along with Myszkowski's three kills.

The third set started the same as the first two with both teams battling it out point-for-point. Lewis & Clark took their first lead on a service error and attack error by Linfield making the score 12-14. The lead then changed off of a kill by Linfield's Taylor Peterson (16-15). The Pios then took the lead again off of a kill by Anneke Banda (17-18). The Wildcats finally took the set with a five-point run from multiple Pioneer attack errors.

In the fourth set, Meyer started off the Pios with a solo block putting the Pios up 5-1. Lewis & Clark then took a 10-5 lead from three errors by Linfield. Both teams then battled from a 14-14 tie to a 19-19 tie. Linfield then took the final point off of an attack error by Myszkowski. 

Meyer finished the match with a team-high 15 kills and recorded her 450th career kill tonight.

Yorke had the team-high in assists, recorded her 450th career assist and had a career-high 31 assists in a match. 

Annika San Nicolas and Meyer had the team-highs with 15 digs each. 

Lewis & Clark plays the Pacific Boxers at Stoller Center this upcoming Friday at 7 p.m.
