LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Lewis & Clark Pioneers fought back in their opening match at the Washington & Lee University Invitational against Southern Virginia University. The Pios defeated the Southern Virginia Knights in 5 games, 25-27,20-25,25-15,25-19,15-7, which made this their fifth straight victory of the season.
The Pios struggled in the first two games of the match with many unforced errors, and struggled with receiving the Knights serves. In the third game, the Pioneers came out strong with kills by Ka'anelaokapu'uwai Pakaki-Pias and Casey Myszkowski to start the third set with a lead. The Pioneers ended up finishing with both Korney Meyer and Hannah Robles finishing in with double digit kills.
Casey Myszkowski lead the Pioneers to victory hitting a .333 with eight kills and one error. Michelle McGinn and Mikayla Lopez led the Pios in setting, McGinn had 17 and Lopez had 19, while Makena Ohlmaier finished with five blocks.
In the third game, the Pioneers kept the lead throughout the whole game, and went on a five point run at after being tied 9-9 then had another five point run at 19-14 in which Casey Myszkowski had two kills.

The Pioneers continue with two games on Saturday against Washington & Lee University and DeSales University as they continue playing in Washington & Lee Invitational in Lexington, Va.
