SALEM, Ore. -- The Pioneers competed in the NCAA Division III West Regional, hosted at Bush Park, on Saturday. Liam Monheim and Blake Slattengren were among the top-15 finishers in the men's race, and will move on to complete in nationals. Both earned NCAA Division III All-West Region honors, along with senior woman's runner Frances Swanson.The top 35 runners in each race earned NCAA Division III All-West Region honors.
In the women's 6K, senior Frances Swanson finished 24th, with a time of 23:29.8. In her first regional competition, freshman Samantha Bowen was the next Lewis & Clark finisher, completing the course in 24:11.8 to secure 43rd. Kori Greonveld crossed the finish line in 48th place.
Keira Crabtree, Madison Sullivan and Amelia Jackson finished within three seconds of one another, with Crabtree crossing the finish line at 25:43.2. Morgan Taylor was also a finisher for the Pioneers, posting a sub-30-minute time. With a combined 283 points, the women posted an 11th place standing.
On the men's side, 251 combined points put them in 10th overall. Monheim, a freshman, posted a time of 26:04.0, clinching seventh place in his first regional competition. Also finishing in the top 15, Slattengren crossed at 26:29.2 and in 12th place.Miguel Haro Ruiz was the next Lewis & Clark finisher, placing 53rd overall. Kurt Barbara, Laurence Seabrook and Ryan Nguyen ran to 99th, 106th and 111th-place finishes, respectively.
Fifty-six individuals, the first seven student-athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team, were selected to participate in the national championship.
Monheim and Slattengren will run in the NCAA Division III Championships on November 19 at Sawyer State Park, Louisville, Ky.
